Dear Boundary Commission
We’ the (Laois/Offaly) Labour Party propose that the Boundaries of same remain intact and aligned as much as possible for the purposes of your upcoming and proposed works their-in. While Laois/Offaly has worked well as a five seat Constituency in the past but we do observe that a change may be necessary. We would also like to highlight at this time our disappointment at the decision to move Portarlington and the surrounding area from the Constituency at the time of the last report.
In the event that your findings conclude that it is necessary to indeed make changes to the Laois/Offaly Boundaries then we ask that you first consider the following:
- That the Constituency of Offaly (Circa 83’000) is declared as a three-seat constituency to accommodate its past, current and projected growth in population over the next years until another review is undertaken.
- That the Constituency of Laois (Circa 92’000) forms the basis as a four-seat constituency to accommodate its past, current and projected growth in population over the next years until another review is undertaken.
Thank you for taking an interest in our submission
