Subject: My Submission – Dublin Fingal Boundary
My submission regarding the electoral constituency thing.
Hello, fingal is a large constituency as of now which has a lot of disadvantages. For example, a
local councillor in balbriggan needs to travel and canvass in new areas such as swords and
donabate. This has its disadvantages as the people of donabate and swords dont know this
councillor and the people of balbriggan local electoral area expect the councillor to represent
them.
Fingal County isn’t easy to walk, drive, bus. The locations vary by distance which is another
disadvantage.
My recommendation Is to split fingal into 2 3-seaters.
Rough Example.
1) Fingal Coastal North or Fingal Bay North: Balbriggan, Balscadden, Skerries, Loughshinny,
Balrothery, Naul, Garristown, Rush, Lusk
2) Fingal Coastal South or Fingal Bay South: Malahide, Kinsealy, Portmarnock, Rowlestown,
Oldtown, Swords, Donabate, Portrane, Ballyboughal etc.
Its very important to include either coastal or bay as fingal is a coastal constituency and it’s
important to recognize that. Just like dublin bay south etc. “Fingal North” is too plain. I would
like either coastal or bay to be included as it sounds aesthetically pleasing and is true.
Im not an expert at this but thats my sugggestions. Fingal Constituency as of now is too large and
covers too many areas. Its needs to be split In half. Many people in fingal are voting for people
that live in either end of fingal and we don’t recognize them. I live in balbriggan and dont know
any politician in south fingal! Thats a disadvantage for everyone. Two 3-seaters would be great.
