A Chara,
To the Electoral Commission:
First, can I wish you all the best in your important work.
I propose that the Dublin suburb of Cabra remains in a single Dáil constituency. For this purpose, Cabra consists of the following electoral divisions: Cabra East B and C Cabra West A, B and C.
Cabra needs to be contained in a single Dáil constituency in order to optimise its representation at national level. Cabra has had its struggles, but it is a thriving community working together to ensure that any negative connotations presented in the past do not resurface. For this to continue, Cabra needs to remain in the one constituency and the community’s relationships with elected representatives over the years to continue so that the community is seen as one. As a Dublin City Councillor for the Local Electoral Area that includes Cabra, and as someone who has lived in the area all my life, there is no doubt that splitting this community would be a bad idea on so many levels. Therefore, I would please urge the Electoral Commission not to divide the community of Cabra.
Is mise le meas,
Councillor Colm O’Rourke
Dublin City Council
