Limerick Mayoral Elections Set for June

7 March, 2024 – Ireland’s independent electoral commission, An Coimisiún Toghcháin has welcomed the signing into law by President Michael D. Higgins of the Local Government (Mayor of Limerick) and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill, 2023.

The law provides for the establishment of an office of mayor for Limerick City and County and for an election to select Limerick’s Mayor.

The election for Ireland’s first ever elected Mayor is scheduled to take place in early June alongside the Local and European Elections.

Ms Justice Marie Baker, The Chair of An Coimisiún Toghcháin said:

“With the legislation now signed by the President, Limerick and Ireland’s first ever Mayoral election is going to happen in early June. An Coimisiún Toghcháin in our role as Ireland’s independent electoral commission will be playing our part to ensure people are informed and aware about June’s Mayoral Election.

“It’s now time for the people of Limerick to get registered so that you can vote in this historic election for Ireland’s first ever elected Mayor.”
